Social Insecurity
It's my bog and I'll rant if I want to. Today's subject: Social Security.
If you don't want to keep reading, here's the moral of the story: Bush's plan to privatize Social Security will be the ruin of this country.
It's obvious that Social Security is in need of some reform, but not to the degree that Bush wants. There is no proof whatsoever that it will be bankrupt by 2018, that's just more of Bush's partisan fuzzy math. It's the same tactic he used to count the number of WMD's in Iraq. The Non-Partisan Finance Committee said that we have until 2042 before we need to think about serious changes and that 90% coverage can continue another 20 years after that.
Social Security, in its current form, will survive the baby boom. Privatization, however, will not. And though many Republicans will say the opposite, privatization did not survive in Chile. It was the child of a right-wing civil rights violator (Pinochet). Sounds familiar.
More about this later....Time for dinner.

Isaac, you should go into political journalism. Seriously, not only do you continue to trump conservatives, you also managed to defend Secretary of Defense, Rummy (with a little help from your friends)
Vive le Democrats!

Vive le Democrats! Indeed. Long live the independent mind.
Sidenote: I don't understand the Rumsfeld reference. How'd he infiltrate this conversation?

I'm sorry, but how does an independent mind have anything to do with democrats? Or republicans for that matter? Wouldn't it be un-independent to mindlessly vote for one party as opposed to actually thinking everything out for yourself? Just wondering.
Also, on a completely random and separate note, those of us in the area should hang out some time. I do live just a mile and a half from your school. So, if you're ever in Lynnwood when I'm in Lynnwood, we should do something Lynnwood-y. The end.

sorry, Chai. Isaac (and most of the Haggen crowd) does think for himself. That's a big part of the reason the Democrat party doesn't have a coordinated effort toward common goals--everyone has different ideas about things because they're thinking for themselves.

About the 'independent mind' comment: I think what I think and not what I'm told. I think the Dems are doing a good job of forcing Americans to think for themselves and not eat what the White House puts on the table.
But Alan, wasn't it fun to be a right-winger for a few hours?
