Styx, Enya, and David Grey
What do those three artists have in common?
They all sing songs that have "sail away" in the lyrics. And these songs have tacked and gibed around my mind all weekend. That's partly why I paid full price for a new CD -- more on this later.
I have developed a minor obsession with sailing. It started last spring when I fell out of a 14-foot Alpha while at the helm and has recently caused me to respond to a craigslist ad for a 22-foot sailboat -- it's only $2000!
I met the seller on Friday and looked at the boat, still unsure whether I should even consider purchasing a sailboat. It's in good condition for being a 30-year-old fiberglass boat. Plus, it comes with all the necessary parts: sails, motor, anchor, the whole shebang.
As soon as I get home, the guy calls me and says he's heading out on the bay for the evening with some friends and invites Jen and I along. I'm thinking "sweet! I get to go sailing!" And eventhough the light breeze that got us to the middle of the bay died once we got out there, it was still a nice evening on the water.
And now I have to make a decision...'cuz I'm the Decider, ya see. Can I / Should I buy a sailboat?
Moving on, have you seen that Geico commercial with the caveman in the airport? The one where he's on the moving walkway and he sees the Geico poster making fun of cavemen? You know that song in the background? I have that now. It's by a Norweigan duo called Royksopp (with an umlaut over the o) and I love it. It was well worth paying full price.

Wow, a sailboat. I'll go! But seriously, that's a pretty big purchase. Where will you keep/store it?

Haha...my roomate Justin got obsessed with that very song, says its quite good.
As for the sailboat...I think its cool, but I'm with Scott. Where would you store it? It is a pretty sweet deal though.

I found out that Bellingham Bay is designated as open moorage, meaning I can anchor down anywhere. (Except for the Lummi reservation shoreline and the shipping lane.) And when I want to go sailing, I can just paddle the three person raft that comes with the boat. Or the family also has a 17-foot canoe.
In other news, The Bellingham Herald just offered me the hiking / outdoor reporter job for the summer! I'm stoked!

That sounds amazing! Excellent news. That means you'll have to do lots of hiking/outdoors stuff, right? If I'm home, my weekends will be yours!

P.S. You should do it like the outdoor reporter for the PI does. You don't wanna report on any sissy hikes that families can do. You wanna report on the cool and hard stuff, that all the B-ham people will appreciate.
