Pain
I hurt. I went to a pick-up game of ulimate yesterday -- the weather couldn't have been nicer for a Sunday afternoon. We played for about 2.5 hours, during which I ran more than I have in a year.
Fall and Winter quarter saw the demise of my athleticism. Being an editor for the student newspaper ate up almost 40 hours of my time each week. That's 40 hours per week that I wasn't playing Ultimate. When that ended I started driving down to Sedro-Woolley three days a week so I could stare at a computer screen for the National Park Service. Basically, I sat on my butt all day. (But I was still tired at the end of the day. Explain that one to me.)
So this quarter -- being my last -- I decided to go out with a bang and get back in shape. Heck, I pay $89 in campus fees just for the Rec Center so I might as well use it. Katrina and I have been climbing two days a week and that is helping. But an afternoon of Ultimate is way more intense, which means so is tha pain.

Update
Styx, Enya, and David Grey
What do those three artists have in common?
They all sing songs that have "sail away" in the lyrics. And these songs have tacked and gibed around my mind all weekend. That's partly why I paid full price for a new CD -- more on this later.
I have developed a minor obsession with sailing. It started last spring when I fell out of a 14-foot Alpha while at the helm and has recently caused me to respond to a craigslist ad for a 22-foot sailboat -- it's only $2000!
I met the seller on Friday and looked at the boat, still unsure whether I should even consider purchasing a sailboat. It's in good condition for being a 30-year-old fiberglass boat. Plus, it comes with all the necessary parts: sails, motor, anchor, the whole shebang.
As soon as I get home, the guy calls me and says he's heading out on the bay for the evening with some friends and invites Jen and I along. I'm thinking "sweet! I get to go sailing!" And eventhough the light breeze that got us to the middle of the bay died once we got out there, it was still a nice evening on the water.
And now I have to make a decision...'cuz I'm the Decider, ya see. Can I / Should I buy a sailboat?
Moving on, have you seen that Geico commercial with the caveman in the airport? The one where he's on the moving walkway and he sees the Geico poster making fun of cavemen? You know that song in the background? I have that now. It's by a Norweigan duo called Royksopp (with an umlaut over the o) and I love it. It was well worth paying full price.
Ike -- who still needs a summer journalism job
On the air
My continuing search for employment has finally paid off (pun intended). I interviewed for a weekend news radio job...and I got it! I'll be doing newscasts and weather on Saturday afternoons for KGMI 790 AM. (Alan: any hints for a beginner?)
In totally unrelated news, the last three nights of sleep have been glorious. I have a futon matress and the frame folds up into a couch, but lately the frame has developed a slight bend in the middle. Quite annoying. So I took apart the frame and put the futon on the floor and the rest is in dreamland.
Continuing with the random updates: I have officially started my last quarter of college and I think it's going to be a blast. I couldn't have asked for a better schedule -- no class Fridays, one class on Mon/Wed and nice three-hour lunch break between two long classes on Tues/Thurs. I actually have time to reclaim my social life and get back in shape. I can climb at the Rec Center between or before classes; I have time to schedule interviews; I'm no longer spending 45 minutes (each way) driving to my internship, thus saving me $45 dollars a week.
