I'm going to make it

05.25.06 (7:56 pm)   [edit]

I had that moment of disbelief earlier this week: "I have a lot to left to do this quarter and I don't want to do it." I was tired of being in school because school was taking over my life. I barely had time to sleep let alone do something active. (I don't count riding my bike to school. That's commuting -- I'm usually in a rush.) But then things started to fall into place; I started getting stuff done. And now I think I'm going to make it.

In fact, I even have time to have some fun this weekend. Jen and I are going mtn biking on Saturday -- it will a good warm up for her section of the Ski to Sea race on Sunday. That's right! She's doing the mtn biking leg of the race! She's so cool. However, I will not be there to see her pass all the other bikers because I'll be in Leavenworth checking out some rocks with my Dad.

I haven't taken any new pictures of any new adventures because there haven't been any new adventures. Alan and Scott came up to B'ham last week and we talked about all of the amazing adventures we want to do. It was inspiring, to say the least. So here's picture from one of my previous amazing adventures: Chenonceau, France.

I'm ready for a summer of adventures, whatever those adventures may be. They could be as intense as working the preloading shift for the UPS (3:30 - 8 am)(this is a possibility) or as simple as writing a new song or as glorious as climbing Mt. Baker with my old roommate.

Life Without Transitions

05.15.06 (1:09 am)   [edit]

Check the time of this post. I just finished my Env. Ethics paper. And I'm eight hours early!  Hooray for coffee, that blessed wake up juice.

I'm sunburned and I don't like it. I was too dumb to put on sunscreen while playing an insane amount of Ultimate this weekend. I guess the tournament is called Gnarly Gnines for a reason. (It's nine hours long and it is quite gnarly.)  I'm feeling a bit gnarly too because my big toenail is coming off. Thank you cleats.

I slept in Red Square Thursday night. Christian and I proped up my rain fly on the Humanities lawn at 1 in the morning and took part in the Homelessness Awareness project. Basically, it was a few other people sleeping in tents or cardboard boxes. I slept well except for when the leaf blower woke me up at 6 and then a pressure washer woke me up at 7.

My throat hurts. And I have to blow my nose quite frequently. Stupid allergies. Maybe I'd feel better if I got some decent sleep.

I've taken to wearing a hat. A trucker hat. It's brown and has a dump truck on it...it's the DIRT logo. I've never been much for wearing hats, but I'm in college so I'm trying new things. Like pickles. I like pickles now too (to a certain degree).

Jen has officially met my family (even the dog) and I have officially met her mom and her stepdad and her brother. I'm excited to meet more of her relatives.

I bought 7.5 pounds of organic pesto the other day. It was only $3.99 at Barganica! Can you believe it! Four dollars for a bucket of pesto. Four dollars only gets you 12 oz of pesto at Haggen's. I'm set to have pasta for life. Now you can all turn green with pesto envy...

As promised...

05.04.06 (12:01 pm)   [edit]

...here are some pics from the UPA Regionals Tournament in Vancouver BC last weekend. It was raining pretty good for most of Saturday, which meant that standing on the sidelines was miserable and cold. That also means I didn't take any photos on Saturday. However, the sun came out on Sunday because that's what SUNdays are for, right?

I watched Jen play for awhile and tried to take some amazing pictures of all the amazing things she does. As expected, my photography skills are not amazing. But I tried. Here's Jen throwing deep:

And a few minutes later...

Once the guys team started playing we migrated across the field like a gaggle of Canada geese. They had a good chance of making into the championship game -- and thus on to Nationals -- but they barely lost to UGMO 14-16. (Games are to 15 and you must win by 2 points within a certain time limit.) Again, I tried to take some amazing pictures of some amazing playing, but DIRT A is just too amazing for my camera. If you want to see how amazing they are, go here http://www.flickr.com/photos/tonyvu/1399024 28/" title="http://www.flickr.com/photos/tonyvu/1399024 28/" target="_blank"http://www.flickr.com/photos/... to see someone else's pictures.

All in all a great tournament. And now I have to go to class because that's what I do. I do homework, write papers/articles, go to class, eat, read for class, eat, and do more homework. Midterm chaos isn't supposed to for last three weeks.
