Coffee
I have never particularly enjoyed drinking coffee. It smells wonderful, but it doesn't quite taste as good as it smells. The aroma is thick and rich, but the taste is thin and acidic. I also didn't really like the idea of spending $2-$3 on a single cup of java. For the price of two tall vanilla lattes i could go out to lunch at New Peking.
College changes people. And so does France. For it was in France that i really decided to give coffee a serious try; I figured it was a cultural experience. (French cafe is like a kick in the face. It gets you moving quick.) I came home with a renewed respect for that age old Renaissanc-inducing beverage. But I still thought it tasted kind of like acid.
And now I am in college: the time in every person's life when one neglects sleep for the simple reason of "I have nothing better to do." I have nothing better to do besides homework. I have nothing better to do than play video games (for those of you who have a new Xbox with all the classic games already loaded onto the hard drive). I have nothing better to do besides go to a midnight ultimate frisbee practice every wednesday. (True story.)
Well, in that same vein, I have nothing better to do than drink coffee. At least occaissionally. Perhaps it's because this entire campus smells like coffee. Even the elevators in the VU and Library smell like coffee. It's everywhere.
Now that I have joined the DARKer side of brewed caffiene, I have discovered a glorious side effect: it makes you happy! Coffee is a plain and simple mood altering drug that is sold on almost every street corner in Washington. And I finally understand why so many people drink it.
My search for cures of the winter blues has now added another antidote: the first being snow, the second being coffee.

Operation Fun Weekend
I had forgotten how fun weekends can be when you actually have fun stuff to do. I normally just go grocery shopping, do the laundry, catch up on homework, sleep in, watch movies, and generally do nothing that could be classified as "exciting." Yup, I was Mr. Excitement.
But this weekend was different. I went to CCF (Campus Christian Fellowship) nd discovered that they were having a game night at The Home--that's the house where the interns live. So I went down to High Street and ate free food and played games. Trivial Pursuit didn't last very long, but neither did the brownies and ice cream.
I awoke Saturday to the soothing sounds of NPR. Then I rode my bike to campus and had the best Ultimate practice I have had this season. And the weather was nice too! Could it get any better? It sure did! I spent the afternoon and evening with the people of Restoring Eden--the Christian Envirnmental club I joined last quarter. We did a night hike up to a look-out on Galbraith and then had a potluck. More great food! I love potlucks.
Sunday was more tame, but still more exciting than previous Sunday's because......THE SEAHAWKS WON! I decided that I really wanted to watch the game and couldn't do so at my house so I ended up over at Frog's. I brought over some quality root beer because Alan has taught me that you can't watch football without it. It's just not the same.
And neither is this week. I've decided that this is going to be a good week. Today's forecast calls for some scattered studying followed by intense physical activity late this evening (practice). The extended forecast is looking good too.

Washington--it rains here
For the last 6 years I haven't really be able to experience this wonderful phenomenon because I lived downstairs (at home) and couldn't really hear the rain pounding on the roof. However, I now live on the top floor of our apartment building and we have a wonderfully flat roof that resonates the sound of the rain perfectly. So, after chasing frisbees in the rain from 7pm-10pm last night, I found it quite relaxing to jump into a delighfully warm bed and just listen to the rain.
So if you don't like the rain, move somewhere else so as to give me more room to enjoy to that wet stuff that falls from the sky.

Two Thousand And Six
And just like that, another year has come and gone. Now I have to remember to write 2006 when dating my checks and homework. It should only take me a few weeks to catch on...
Thank you to the entire Lake Stevens crew who made my short winter break memorable. For those of you who weren't at Haggen's here's a short summary: stay up late, go skiing, stay up late, play urban golf, stay up late, go to Haggen's, stay up late, hang at Will's house (3X). So tonight I'm going to try and go to bed before midnight, because I'm tired. Of staying up late, that is. Because when I stay up late, I sleep in late, and that just screws up my entire day. And I like breakfast. Waking up to Lunch just isn't right.
I'll be leaving for Bellingham tomorrow. If you are a Hamster (translation: someone from Bellingham) I will see you soon. We should go hiking so I can use the Christmas present I bought for myself.
